This photoshoot is a great example of that. When we did this shoot with ROAM Luggage, I had an exact vision in my head of how it would go & the photos I wanted to capture.
Welll, Mother Nature had other plans. The first day we went to shoot, the entire city was covered in fog—you couldn’t see the skyline at all. I was so bummed, but determined to make my vision come to life.
We went back a few days later & the parking lot we planned to park in was closed due to flooding so we had to trek through the city, mud puddles & all, with these suitcases to get to this spot. You can imagine what they looked like when we arrived 🙈.
Once we got to the pier & wiped all the mud splatters off the suitcases, the Windy City stood up to her namesake, whipping my hair this way & that, into my eyes & around my face[All my long hair girlies know exactly how difficult it is to get a good photo when your hair is blowing all over the place 😂].
Annd then it started to rain. Thank goodness it only lasted a few minutes, but in the moment it felt like everything was plotting against us to get these photos [shout out to my incredible husband for being patient & keeping me sane through the process].
After a few Marilyn Monroe moments & a narrowly missed suitcase overboard incident, we were able to bring my vision to life & capture these images.
My point in telling you this story is not to complain, but to emphasize that what you see on social media isn’t always reality.
To most of you, these images tell a much different story than what I shared above. You would never know that wind, rain & mud played a part in this or that we trekked all over the city with these suitcases in the hot, muggy Chicago weather. And you definitely would never know the time & effort that went into creating these images.
So next time you find yourself judging or comparing when someone posts a beautiful photo/video, take a moment to remind yourself that social media isn’t all-encompassing & often doesn’t tell the whole story.
