Most of us do it more than we realize and it can become a formula for unhappiness. We compare ourselves to family members, friends, strangers we know nothing about, our former self and even our future self. It does us ZERO good to wish we were someone else or that our situation was different than it is. ___ Who says we have to be glamorous to show up and do what we’re made to do? Who says we have to have a cool story to step into something bigger than ourselves?” Maybe, just maybe, if we stop assuming our stories are boring or we have to be extraordinary to make any sort of impact, we can look a little deeper and find something more impressive than what meets the eye. ___ I’m just a girl who grew up in a small town in Iowa—that’s what I use to tell myself. But guess what? There have been times during our travels when being from Iowa has made me feel like a celebrity because **SPOILER ALERT**—Iowans love meeting other Iowans when not in Iowa😂! We’ve met some wonderful people and had enthralling conversations all over the world all because I grew up in Iowa. ___ Despite that we are unable to travel and have these experiences right now, we are trying to appreciate the imperfectness and new of our current every day lives. Do you ever feel like you’re in a real life movie? When everything feels so perfect it’s hard to believe it’s real... ___ This is how I have felt since I met Carl 3 years ago in Denver, Colorado. We’ve had plot twists, ups and downs along the way—just like every good movie—but we wouldn’t change a single scene in our story. ___ The stranger I met over Chicago style pizza and live music on a warm April night in the mile high city has turned into my everything—my best friend, my travel companion, my dance partner, my sous-chef, my fiancé, the love of my life 💗 ___ I can’t wait for a front row seat in the next scene of our story whether that entails quarantine at home or stunning views like this one in the French Riviera. CHANGE OF PLANS ___ Due to the unforeseen circumstances of #COVID19, we have regretfully decided to postpone our wedding day. ___ It was such a difficult decision, but one we knew we needed to make for the health and wellbeing of our loved ones. Despite our sadness, we are focusing on the things that really matter to get us through these unprecedented times—love, family, friends and health. ___ What matters most of all, is that we have each other! The love we share cannot be taken away from us. It is what we have now and ALWAYS! GOODBYE OREGON! ___ Although our time in Oregon may have been cut short, it was nothing short of wonderful. When we first arrived, back in December, it rained every single day for 2 weeks. Everything was grey and wet. We felt stuck in the dark, basement studio where we were staying until we secured more permanent housing. We asked the locals if it was always this rainy and grey in the winter. Most people chuckled and responded, “Oh yes, you came at the worst time, but it will get better.” ___ We second guessed our decision to come to Oregon more times than I can count in the first 2-3 weeks. Slowly, but surely things began to improve. We found an apartment with a lot of natural light, we ventured to the coast and the mountains where there was more sunshine and started falling in love with the mild winter climate. Our days quickly filled with various outdoor activities and we were hooked. ___ We had no idea that Oregon was home to such diverse landscape. We were able to explore some of the most beautiful coastline, mountains, glaciated peaks, waterfalls, lakes, desert playas, wetlands and hot springs in the United States. The endless outdoor activities were by far our favorite part of this stunning state. ___ Over the last 2 weeks, we have felt sad to leave this place that has become familiar to us. The smell of the alpine trees, the color of green almost every direction you look, the sound of waterfalls crashing into crystal blue pools, the coastal breeze whipping through our hair—these are some of the things we will miss most. These are the memories that will stay with us forever. ___ Thank you Oregon for sharing your beauty, opportunities and wonderful people with us. Guiding each other hand in hand. ___ Much like everyone else in the world, a lot of our plans have changed over the last week. ___ On Wednesday we were suppose to fly home to #chicago for a long weekend filled with pre-wedding activities including family parties, bridal showers, bachelorette dinner, dress fittings, wedding band appointment with our jeweler @mmartinandco and most importantly time with family. Instead we had to cancel our flight and all of the activities we have been looking forward to for months. ___ We know, in the grand scheme of everything happening right now, that these are small problems compared to the fight/hardship that so many others are having to endure right now; however, we aren't going to lie, we were sad and disappointed about the entire situation. ___ We still do not know what our wedding day is going to look like, but what we do know is that we have each other. We are guiding each other day by day through these uncharted waters and looking forward to the day that we have put countless hours of time and effort into planning. What lifts you up? __ We are elevated by travel, new experiences, nature, adventure and each other. __ Life is easier and so much better when we work together. Sometimes we fall down, we worry, we cry, we argue, but we always get back up—together! When we work together we thrive and become stronger individually and as a couple. __ Just like these redwood trees. Redwood tree roots are very shallow, often only five or six feet deep, but they make up for it in width, sometimes extending up to 100 feet from the trunk. They thrive in thick groves, where the roots can intertwine and even fuse together. This gives them tremendous strength against the forces of nature.
